Veterinary Practices

We would like to remind members of the public what they should do if they find an injured animal or bird – domesticated or wild. All veterinary practices have a duty of care to animals, both in and out of surgery hours.

The quote below is from the ‘Code of Professional Conduct for Veterinary Surgeons’ issued by the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons:

“3.9 A veterinary surgeon on duty should not unreasonably refuse to facilitate the provision of first aid and pain relief for all … species until such time as a more appropriate emergency veterinary service accepts responsibility for the animal.”
