The Manx Wildlife Trust
The ManxSPCA and Manx Wildlife Trust (MWT) collaborate to protect the island’s seal population, which is one of the largest in the British Isles. The MWT monitors seal habitats and behaviours and will, as a last resort, provide emergency care to seal pups that have been abandoned and injured until they are strong enough to return to the wild.
If you find a dead seal, or any other dead marine mammal such as a dolphin or porpoise, please report it to the Manx Wildlife Trust on 844432.

Both the common and grey seal can be spotted swimming in Manx waters, or observed basking in the sun on our rocky shores. The seals are drawn to the Island’s secluded bays and coves, where they can find an abundance of fish and crustaceans to feast on.
Seals are an important part of the Island’s ecosystem – they play a vital role in maintaining the balance of the marine environment. They are also an important part of the Island’s cultural heritage, featuring in local folklore and legends.
What to do if you see a lone baby seal
First don’t immediately worry. Often the mother will be in the water not far from her pup but still keeping a watchful eye over it. It is likely she won’t come ashore if you get too close so please maintain a good distance between yourself, your dogs and the pup. She may remain in the water for some time so don’t be alarmed if the mother doesn’t come back for several hours – this is quite normal, and she may be out feeding. If you are concerned keep a watchful eye on the pup for several hours and stop anyone else disturbing or approaching the seal too. If the mother does not return after a considerable length of time then it may be a case of calling the MWT or the ManxSPCA, but make sure you yourself aren’t the reason for the mother not returning.
