Help Us Ban Electric Shock Collars on the Isle of Man

Electric shock collars are cruel devices that cause unnecessary pain and distress to animals. Despite widespread evidence of the harm they cause, these collars remain legal on the Isle of Man, leaving our pets unprotected.

Some members of the public may have had the chance to stop at the ManxSPCA stall during Tynwald Day, the Southern Show, and the Royal Show this year—and braved experiencing an electric shock from a dog’s electric shock collar. The collar used had eight levels of voltage, controlled via a wireless remote. Over 30 people gave consent to try it; only one fifth were able to make it all the way to level eight, yet all reported lingering tingling in their hand or up their arm minutes after the shock. This simple demonstration highlighted just how painful and distressing these devices are.

The ManxSPCA is calling for action. We are seeking the support of a Member of the House of Keys (MHK) to take this important issue forward to Tynwald. Our goal is for the Isle of Man Government to re-issue a thorough and robust consultation—one that is properly publicised—so that the voices of the Manx public can be heard, and the welfare of our animals is prioritised.

We are committed to helping raise awareness about this issue, but we need your support. Signing the petition is a vital step toward meaningful change. Each signature demonstrates to decision-makers that the people of the Isle of Man do not support the use of electric shock collars and want stronger protections for animals.

This is an opportunity to make a real difference. By standing together, we can ensure that our animals are treated with the care and respect they deserve, and that unnecessary suffering becomes a thing of the past.
