We have teamed up with The Childrens Centre to organise a family fun day with a difference. The “Paws in the Plantation” is a cross country event for people of all ages and their dogs.
The ‘Paws In The Plantation Canicross’ event are fun runs starting with a 1km event for children aged seven to 11 and 11 to 14yr old’s, followed by a 5km race for 15 to 39 yr old’s, 40 to 54yr olds and 55yrs +
There’s no age limit for canine athletes – but dogs should be one year old before doing too much exercise to ensure that they have grown sufficiently. However, larger breeds may need to be a little older. If you have any doubts about your dog’s ability to take part, please consult your vet beforehand.
To help you and your pet get in shape, we have an easy to follow six-week training programme for owners and their pets, which will be appearing in Manx Tails Magazine in February and March 2015. As well as raising funds for two great charities, we also hope that the event will encourage more pet owners to run or jog with their dogs. It’s a great activity with health benefits for owners and pets. Regular exercise means that dogs will be happier, more content, and the bond between owner and their pet will be stronger. On average, fit and healthy dogs live two years longer than those that don’t get regular exercise.”
A big THANK YOU to Nedbank Private Wealth for sponsoring the event which ensures that all the money raised will support the work of the Manx SPCA and The Children’s Centre. A big THANK YOU also goes to Manx Tails for their support of this event.
